Daikin or Mitsubishi air conditioner: what are the differences?
Aircobrabant works exclusively with two brands: Daikin and Mitsubishi Electric. Both brands are among the world's best in climate control and are excellent in quality, energy efficiency and sound level. Even so, there is a difference between the two. In this article we explain what those differences are, so you can make the right choice for your situation.

Daikin and Mitsubishi Electric: two top brands
Daikin is a Japanese company founded in 1924 that is now the global market leader in climate control. The brand is known for innovative technology, a wide range and distinctive design series. Mitsubishi Electric is also a Japanese company with a long history in the electronics and climate control market. The brand is known for exceptional reliability, robust systems and excellent performance even at extreme outdoor temperatures.
Both brands are STEK-certified compatible and are supplied by Aircobrabant including installation by our own engineers.
Range: Daikin has more design choices
The biggest visible difference between the two brands lies in the range of wall-mounted units for private customers. Daikin offers several distinctive design series for the living room and bedroom.
The Daikin Sensira is the entry-level model: reliable and affordable. The Daikin Comfora offers more comfort with WiFi as standard. The Daikin Perfera is the top model: whisper-quiet, energy label A+++ and Flash Streamer air purification. The Daikin Stylish combines top performance with a design look in white, silver and black. The Daikin Emura is the most distinctive design model, with a curved housing.
Mitsubishi Electric has no comparable named design series for wall-mounted units for private customers. The models are distinguished primarily by capacity and type, not by design. For those for whom aesthetics play an important role, Daikin offers more choice.
Energy label and efficiency
Both brands supply models with the highest energy labels. The Daikin Perfera, Stylish and Emura have energy label A+++ in both cooling and heating mode. Mitsubishi Electric wall-mounted units from the MSZ-LN series also have a high energy label and are therefore comparably economical in use.
In practice, the difference in efficiency between the two brands is minimal for comparable models. Both systems work as a heat pump and deliver heat reliably at low outdoor temperatures, down to about -15 degrees.
Sound level
In terms of sound level, the top models of both brands are equivalent. The quietest Daikin wall-mounted units start from 19 dB at the lowest setting. The quietest Mitsubishi Electric wall-mounted units are also available with comparably low sound levels. Both brands are excellent for the bedroom.
Business use: Mitsubishi Electric scores high
For business use and higher capacities, Mitsubishi Electric has a strong offering. In the business market the brand is known for the robustness and reliability of its systems under intensive use, such as in offices, hospitality venues and server rooms. Mitsubishi Electric offers an extensive range of cassette units, ceiling units and ducted units in higher capacities up to 14 kW.
Daikin also has a strong business offering and is the market leader in VRF systems for larger commercial buildings. For the business market, both brands are an excellent choice.
Price
At a comparable capacity, the prices of Daikin and Mitsubishi Electric are close together. The entry-level models of both brands start at comparable purchase prices. Daikin’s premium models, such as the Stylish and Emura, are generally slightly more expensive than comparable Mitsubishi wall-mounted units because of the design aspect.
At Aircobrabant the same installation price applies to both brands: a single-split system including installation starts from € 1.750. The choice of brand has no influence on the installation costs.
Which brand suits you?
Choose Daikin if aesthetics and design choice are important, if you want a named series such as the Perfera or Stylish, if you are looking for Flash Streamer air purification or the Intelligent Eye motion sensor, or if you want an extensive choice between entry-level, mid-range and premium.
Choose Mitsubishi Electric if reliability and robustness are the main criteria, if you are looking for a business installation in higher capacities, if you attach less value to design aspects and want to choose purely on performance, or if you are looking for a proven system for intensive use.
