Cooling & heating
Cooling and heating with an air conditioner can be achieved by means of a heat pump system, which is built into many modern air conditioners. Here is how it works:
- Cooling: In cooling mode, the air conditioner extracts heat from the indoor space and carries it outside. This process is achieved by means of a refrigerant that absorbs and removes heat. The airflow generated by the air conditioner then carries the cooled air into the room.
- Heating: In heating mode, the operation of the heat pump is reversed. The system extracts heat from the outside air (even in cold weather there is still heat present) and brings it inside, where it is distributed as warm air in the room.
This process makes air conditioners with a heat pump not only efficient at cooling in warm weather, but also effective at heating during colder periods. It therefore offers a year-round climate control solution, resulting in better energy efficiency and comfort than traditional heating systems such as electric heating elements.
