Frequently asked questions about installing air conditioning
How long does it take to install an air conditioner?
A standard single-split air conditioner is usually installed in one day. The installation itself takes 4 to 8 hours. A multi-split system with several indoor units can take 1 to 2 days, depending on the number of units and the complexity of the pipework.
Do you need a permit for an air conditioner?
Most homes do not need a building permit. This may differ for listed buildings or installation on the front facade. The outdoor unit may in principle be placed on the facade or on a flat roof, provided noise nuisance for neighbours is limited. During the consultation we will look at your situation together.
Can an air conditioner also heat?
Yes. Almost all split-unit air conditioners from Daikin and Mitsubishi can both cool and heat. In winter the air conditioner works as an air-to-air heat pump and can be up to 60% more energy-efficient than electric supplementary heating. Most models heat efficiently down to outdoor temperatures of minus 15 degrees.
Are you allowed to install an air conditioner yourself?
You may do part of the work yourself: hanging the units, drilling holes and routing the pipes through. Connecting the refrigerant pipes containing F-gases is legally reserved for a STEK-certified installer. Anyone who does this without certification risks a fine and loss of the manufacturer’s warranty.
How many kW does my air conditioner need?
As a rule of thumb, use 0.03 to 0.04 kW per cubic metre of room. A 50 m² living room with a ceiling height of 2.6 m then needs an air conditioner of 4 to 5 kW. Insulation, orientation to the sun and the number of windows all affect this. Our advisers will calculate the exact capacity for you free of charge.
What is STEK certification?
STEK stands for Stichting Erkenningsregeling Koeltechnische bedrijven (the Dutch foundation for the certification of refrigeration companies). Companies and engineers who work with F-gases (the refrigerants in split-unit air conditioners) are legally required to be STEK-certified. This certificate guarantees skilled and environmentally safe work. All Aircobrabant engineers hold this certificate.

Van het eerste contact tot de installatie een topervaring! Mark nam de tijd om goed met me mee te denken tijdens het aankoopproces. Door de indeling van mijn woning was het geen standaard installatie, maar door het meedenken en vakmanschap is het resultaat er top uit komen te zien.
De twee monteurs op installatiedag waren vriendelijk, gezellig en werkten zeer netjes, inclusief nette omkappingen voor zowel de nieuwe als mijn bestaande buitenunit.
Nu met de hittegolf pluk ik dagelijks de vruchten van mijn nieuwe splitairco in de woonkamer. Ik zou AircoBrabant aanraden aan iedereen in de regio die op zoek is naar echte vakmensen!Hein G. ·
